The main advantage of Hanghai CV joint cage is that it is very inexpensive and of extremely low production cost, as compared to conventional construction techniques. It can also reduce scrap due to reduced friction between the two walls and the inner and outer rim of the joint. A continuous flow of materials can be readily obtained.

The outer flat sheet metal stock of the constant velocity joint cage is perfectly circular, but because of the inner annular spherical shape, it has a slightly oblate shape at its poles. This slightly oblate shape generates a small amount of lateral force on the flat sheet metal stock. This lateral force creates a net pulling force on the half-cage member and causes it to rotate about the axis of rotation about the position of the flat sheet metal stock. The net result of the rotation is a force that causes the inner annular spherical shape to contract.
